Ep 44: The Pocket Arcade and Retro Podcast
Neil's been doing more work in the new Boneyard Arcade, prepping for PAX, as well as Moon Patrol and... Pinball? Marc thought he might have a permanent injury from Gun.Smoke, and is looking forward to South By South West which is happening in Sydney soon. The guys then tackle a bit of a tricky topic: how much do graphics really add to a game, and would they be better without the veneer? All in this episode of PARP!

Pt2: and level progression, harder enemies and boss fights (aka different coloured t-shirt = tougher dude). Some specific examples of harmony: the deep and beautiful airfield sunset in Lvl 4 of Nam-1975 is breathtaking. Samurai Shodown is easily my most favourite fighter: Ukyo’s peninsula stage, bamboo forest of Jubei’s stage, the arid fields of death in Hanzo’s. History has shown us games have lost their way at times: N64 polygons over playability, but ER and GoT show us it’s still there 😀

What are good graphics: for me they must work in harmony with the rest of the game: concept and narrative, production, music, development and progression. Good graphics don’t steal the limelight at the sacrifice of any other element. They appreciate their limits and work smart to visually convey the world and lore of said game. Regardless of age games like Pacman, Shinobi, DD, Final Fight, Outzone, Contra all share these elements of space, clear and conscious palette choice to convey mood…

And with a very light dumbbell (bar and 2 x 1.25kg weights) start with the weight out straight (arm is entirely rested) then allow the dumbbell to slowly lower entirely controlled by the eccentric movement of the wrist. Then using the other hand- raise the dumbbell back to parallel before continuing the movement again. Do 3 x 5 reps slowly with a break in between the sets. Try over 2 weeks several times a week. Let me know how you go- these kinds of strains require attention to improve 👍

Hi Marc, from experience that numbness and resistance in the forearm through to fingers would be a cumulative strain triggered by a huge weekend of BOTA. Gunsmoke, while definitely a full-on game, is a relatively easy on the arm to finger alignment and shouldn’t be causing problems. Can I suggest a simple but very effective forearm release (which I believe is the cause of the issue - which will come back without manipulation). Put your arm across a dining seat or bench press seat…
